The initial board state is filled with white and black stones in an alternating checkered pattern. On the first move black removes one of their own stones from the board. Often they remove it from a corner or the center, but they may remove it from anywhere. Then white removes a stone directly adjacent but not diagonally adacent to the stone removed by the first player. Subsequent moves are made by leaping over the opponents stones in order to remove them from play. It is legal to jump multiple stones in one move as long as this can be accomplished without changing direction. Diagonal jumps are not allowed. The game ends when one player has no moves to play on their turn. It is impossible to draw, the game will always have a winner.
